Cottage Garden
I started with a blank slate with this garden.
I wanted to create a welcoming sense of entry and year round interest.
As you can see we also “borrowed” some landscape from
the neighbouring properties. The large willow tree in the
background belongs to a garden 2 doors down. The majority
of this garden is a low maintenance shrub bed that requires just
spring and fall maintenance and regular watering during the hot
summer season. These pictures were taken five years after
installation.
After Five Years:

A welcoming entry garden

Movement and grace are created with grasses

We “borrowed” the willow tree from a garden 2 doors
down

A “colour echo” was created with an existing tree in
the yard

We “colour echoed” the trees across the street with
shrubs of the same colour

Note the hits of blue to add colour interest

Under story plantings are an important part of a garden

A nice overall effect which also includes window boxes and hanging
baskets
